God Is Love and Those Who Abide in Love Abide in God
This meditation is based on a passage for May 25, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: 1 John 4:7-21
Reflection and Question: Here is the heart of my Christian life: “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.” Just as God loves us, so we must love one another, without exception and without fear. Yet some tell our GLBT brothers and sisters in Christ, whose good lives prove that they abide in God’s love, that they may only receive God’s love if they change. I believe that abiding in love means accepting one another just as we are, leaving any judgment to God alone. How is God’s love perfected in you?
Prayer: Thank You, dear God, for sending Your Son that we might live through Him, for giving us Your Spirit that Christ’s love may be perfected in us, and for casting out any fear of punishment. Abiding in Your love, may we love all we meet. Amen.
